Job Title: Middle School/High School Math Teacher

Supervises: Teacher aide(s) and volunteers as required

Job Summary

The Middle School/High School Math Teacher position is responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering curriculum in secondary math classes (i.e., Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Probability and Statistics) that aligns with both state standards and the School’s educational philosophy; providing regular updates on curriculum development, student progress, and departmental needs; and engaging in open communication with school administrators, seeking guidance and sharing insights to enhance a comprehensive program of instruction to support the overall mission of East Hill Christian School (“EHCS”), focusing on student development, academic success, and the cultivation of a positive, faith-based school culture. This person shall be a person of spiritual maturity and shall reflect the purpose of EHCS, which is to honor Christ at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promotes high student achievement.
  • Develops and implements a curriculum that aligns with both state standards and the School’s educational philosophy.
  • Integrates biblical principles and Christian values into math lessons, demonstrating the relevance of faith in everyday life. 
  • Employs innovative and engaging teaching methods to make math concepts accessible and relatable to students.
  • Provides clear and structured lessons that cater to diverse learning styles within the classroom.
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking.
  • Develops and administers assessments to evaluate students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Provides constructive feedback to students and parents, guiding them on areas of improvement while recognizing achievements.
  • Monitors and tracks student progress, identifying opportunities for additional support or enrichment.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Implements consistent and fair discipline policies in accordance with the School’s policies and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Stays current with educational trends, teaching methodologies, and advancements in the field of mathematics.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence, participates in professional development opportunities, and collaborates with colleagues to enhance teaching practices.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, keeping them informed about their children's academic progress and any related concerns.
  • Actively engages with the School community, attending events and contributing to the overall School culture.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. 
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like, to communicate these objectives to students. 
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 
  • Counsels with colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis. 
  • Assists with implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with the School Principal, evaluates their job performance.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. 
  • Contributes actively to chapel services and other spiritual development activities.
  • Embraces opportunities to integrate Christian values and principles into all aspects of education, fostering a holistic approach to student growth.

*In addition to the above areas of responsibility, the Teacher shall carry out such other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Personal qualifications

  • Deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with EHCS’s Statement of Faith.
  • Proven spiritual, moral, academic, and leadership qualities.
  • Attendance and involvement in the ministry of a local evangelical church.
  • Christian maturity with knowledge of how to lead others to faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Be a warm, approachable Christian, while simultaneously evoking the respect of students, parents, and professional colleagues.
  • Understanding and relatability to students, parents, administrators, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to build strong/positive mentoring relationship with students.
  • Willingness and ability to apply biblical truths to everyday life decisions.
  • Demonstrated wisdom, discernment, and strength that comes from God to make difficult decisions.
  • Discernment and discretion to maintain confidences.
  • Commitment to Christian education.

Skills/Abilities

  • Understanding of the purpose, philosophy, and objectives of Christian school education.
  • Commitment to Christian values and the integration of faith into the curriculum.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and organizational skills.
  • Be able to follow through on communications and decisions; manage time effectively; and establish appropriate priorities.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of an earned Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in math, math education, or experience in a relevant field; Master’s Degree preferred (required for DE/AP opportunities).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience or other relevant experience and participation in an alternative certification program.
  • Current professional education license/certificate or certification (or willingness to obtain certification) by the Association of Christian Schools International Association (or other comparable accrediting organization) and the State of Florida (preferred).
