We have an  immediate need for a full-time, non-exempt  Health Educator . The  Health Educator serves as a community resource on healthy sexuality. Specifically, this position promotes healthy sexuality by delivering curricula to middle and high school girls in the Lynn Public Schools and community agencies. The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $50,000 annually . As a full-time role, the  Health Educator is eligible to participate in the organization's benefits program.

POSITION OVERVIEW (What we're looking for )

As a member of the Middle and High School Programs department, the  Health Educator advocates for healthy sexuality education through partnerships with the Lynn Public Schools, Lynn Community Health Center, North Shore Medical Center, Girls Inc. National, and other service providers. This role creates a more holistic approach to healthy sexuality education, including but not limited to trauma-informed care, cultural competency, LGBTQ+, racial justice, and social & emotional learning. Reporting to the Adolescent Sexuality Education Program Manager, the  Health Educator is a vital resource in implementing healthy sexuality approaches to assist participants in leading productive and fulfilling lives. This position will be scheduled to work 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES (What you'll be achieving)

At a minimum, the  Health Educator  will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:

  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Lynn Public School administration and health teachers.
  • Plan and implement programming and workshops, including Girls Inc. healthy sexuality programming, for the middle and high school program participants as requested.
  • Plan and co-facilitate special events, such as National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, local health fairs, and parent workshops as requested.
  • Participate in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health provider meetings, trainings, and regular conference calls as requested.
  • Complete all reporting requirements for the Department of Public Health and Girls Inc., administer all surveys, and maintain accurate records regarding program delivery.
  • Analyze data from participant surveys to inform programming and grant reporting.
  • Monitor progress and inform the Adolescent Sexuality Education Program Manager about all problems, concerns, and needs of youth and collaborating organizations.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance and support to the community around healthy sexuality strategies.
  • Assist in the facilitation of training for program staff.
  • Participate as a team member of the Middle School and Teens Program to assess the needs of girls and the greater community in relation to how Girls Inc. is/could be meeting such needs.
  • Work collaboratively with Girls Inc. staff to provide a safe, secure, pro-girl environment.
  • Travel to and from schools to implement healthy sexuality education.
  • Assist with program adaptations as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (What you'll bring along)

Education : Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university. The educational requirement may be substituted with four years of relevant experience.

Experience : Minimum of two years of direct service-related experience working with adolescents, including teaching or the implementation of programs for middle and/or high school youth.

Qualifications : To be optimally successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with teen pregnancy prevention/healthy sexuality approaches.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a multicultural, urban setting. 
  • Ability to identify community needs and changing environmental norms around youth. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications or similar web applications for day-to-day office administration tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of different races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and experiences.
  • Commitment to addressing the impact of racism and other oppressions on sexual and reproductive health.
  • Commitment to addressing the impact of gender inequity and other oppressions on the healthy development of youth.
  • Able to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, supportive, and creative environment for youth, staff, and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate, and articulate program needs. 
  • Ability to collaborate and apply effective group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to commute to multiple and varied settings on the same day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may change week to week and include early mornings and/or late evenings.
  • Experience with behavior management using an emphatic and solution-seeking approach.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluent in multiple languages (English, English/Spanish, Haitian Creole/English, etc.) is a plus.
