Overview

Texas Oncology is excited to announce an incredible opportunity seeking a full-time, Certified Medical Physicist (MS) or (PhD) to join our regional group of three radiation oncology centers located in the Rio Grande Valley with the Texas Oncology clinic in Harlingen, Texas being the primary center.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Full range of on-site clinical medical physics support.
  • Serve as the primary remote physics support for sites within the region
  • Occasional, as need, travel to sites within the region for on-site physics support
  • Determines the need for, specifies, and accesses dosimetric and treatment planning equipment including, but not limited to, measurement instruments to calibrate all treatment equipment and monitoring devices, computerized treatment planning systems, computerized water phantom systems with appropriate ionization chambers and diodes, etc.
  • Advises and consults with physicians to provide advice or direction to technical staff when patients are being planned or treated.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Medical physics from an accredited college or university.
  • ABR board certification (or equivalent) or have completed a CAMPEP approved residency, be board eligible and be in the process of obtaining certification by the American Board of Radiology
  • Eligibility for a Texas license
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
    • Willing to consider an entry- or mid-level candidate with strong clinical background.
  • A working knowledge of SRS, SBRT, and HDR
  • Experience with Varian linear accelerators as well as Nucletron/Oncentra
  • Strong organization and oral / written communication skills
  • The ability to travel on an occasional, as needed, basis


Preferred Experience:

  • Working knowledge of:
    • Varian linear accelerators
    • Eclipse
    • ARIA Radiation Oncology Information System
    • HDR, SBRT and SRS procedures
    • Radiation safety

Must have the ability to utilize components of the treatment-planning computer including but not limited to the use of keyboards, digitizers, trackball and mouse controls. Must be able to stand for 8 hours; lift 40 pound block to shoulder level; have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures and isodose displays on computer monitor. Additionally, must be able to align treatment field and monitor patient during radiation therapy treatment.
